Seductive, Charismatic and Timeless art exhibition in Painswick, Stroud

Self Reflection Catherine Deneuve art portrait

My new art exhibition of portraits - 'Seductive, Charismatic & Timeless' opened on the 29th November at a Private View at The Painswick Pooch Coffee House, with a display of never seen before oil portraits and framed, limited edition prints of music and cinema icons.

There is a distinctly Parisian theme to the exhibition, with most of the portraits having strong French connections. ‘Self Reflection’ displays actress Catherine Deneuve’s intense yet intimate stare at the onlooker, with a darker image of her profile reflected in the mirror aside her.

For the painting ‘Miles’, I created an in-depth jazz playlist to truly feel the energy, expression and passion this legend put into his music. The background of the portrait was equally important, to make it appear as if the music is visually emanating from and surrounding Miles Davis.

There is a revealing and personal quote next to each portrait, such as this one by Jane Birkin - "My look is a cocktail. I'm not as nicely turned out as the French but I don't care, like the English."

Here are some of the photos before, during and after the Private View - it was a great turnout, where guests were treated to Prosecco, wine & canapés. French music such as songs from the 'Midnight in Paris' & 'Amelie' soundtracks were playing and some of the guests even dressed in 1920s Parisian outfits!

Gemma and Ali took over the ownership of popular Patchwork Mouse Art Café this summer and recently refurbished it, changing the name to The Painswick Pooch after their beloved Schnauzer, Poppy. “As new owners, we’re delighted to have Nick as our first artist exhibiting here with his beautiful portraits – it opens up a series of monthly art exhibitions with local artists throughout 2019.”

'Ooh, I Say!' Oil on deep edge canvas (50 x 50cm)

Dot Cotton made her debut at 'Seductive, Charismatic & Timeless', she was deliberately placed next to a reclining portrait of Brigitte Bardot as a juxtaposition of mood. She was actually the big hit of the evening, with three potential buyers wanting to take her home!

'Keith' signed, limited edition print (44 x 44cm)

The art exhibition continues daily (except Tuesdays, when the cafe is closed) until 23rd December, offering unique Christmas gift ideas - visit the Online Catalogue & Price Guide for more details.
